"Stay Awake! The Lord is Near."
Dear People of OLL,
Today, we begin the beautiful season of Advent, a time of joyful preparation and hope as we await the coming of Christ. Advent marks the beginning of the Church’s liturgical year and spans four weeks leading up to Christmas. It is a season of dual focus: we remember Christ’s first coming as a humble child in Bethlehem, and we prepare our hearts for His return in glory at the end of time. The word "Advent" comes from the Latin adventus, meaning "coming" or "arrival," reminding us that God is always drawing near to us.
The Gospel calls us to "stay awake," not in fear but in readiness. This is not just about watching for signs but about living each day with hearts open to God’s presence. Advent invites us to slow down, reflect, and make room for Him in our lives.
How will you prepare your heart this Advent? Perhaps through prayer, acts of kindness, or simply spending quiet moments with the Lord. Let us journey together toward the light of Christ, who is our hope and salvation.
May this Advent season fill your hearts with peace and joy as we await the coming of our Savior.
Blessings,
Fr. Alex
